Top 10 Highlights from the Delicious Food Show 2014

After a fun, food-filled weekend at the Delicious Food Show, we thought we’d share some of our favourite moments of the foodie fest with you. From rubbing shoulders with Mario Batali, Chuck Hughes and Tyler Florence, to a steady, endless flow of Propeller brand coffee c/o Parachute Coffee, it was the best weekend we’ve had in awhile.

In no particular order (because we couldn’t choose our faves out of so many scrumptious moments), here are our highlights of #DFS14…

Von Donuts‘ Butter Tart Filled Donuts – Um, need we say more? The buttery goodness of a butter tart infused inside a flakey donut, all topped with orange flavoured icing. Delish!

Holy Chuck Burger‘s Cowlarie Burger – Two patties interlaced with cheese, and a smothering of caramelized onions held together with… not buns… but actual mini grilled cheeses. 

Kal & Mooy Food Truck – Specifically the samosas they were serving up; each variety (chicken, beef and veggie) was completely unique from another in flavour and texture, each topped with a sweet yet somewhat spicy sauce… incredible! 

Watching Dominique Ansel Make a Cronut – The real-life Willy Wonka took to the Celebrity Stage and indulged the crowd by making his world-renowned croissant-donut-cross known as the Cronut. 

Partying With Nadia G – The rock-star chef took over the Gladstone Hotel Friday night and partied until the wee hours of the morning. With more cupcakes than we could count and the drinks a-flowing, our hangovers were both sugar and alcohol induced. 

Walter Caesar Mix – After Friday night, a little hair of the dog was in order. Walter’s all-natural, small batch blend of Caesar mix was heaven-sent. No yucky MSG or chemicals, either.

Cooking With Roger Mooking – Cooking everything from Lemongrass Chicken to Cornmeal Cow Tongue Dumplings, preparing food alongside Roger was a blast. He kept us laughing as we chopped, seared, and stirred away.

Book Signing With Tyler Florence – Ever since we received our advance copy of Tyler’s latest cookbook, Inside The Test Kitchen, we’ve been totally geeking out over the rustic, moleskin-inspired guide. Getting it signed by Tyler… even better!

Learning the Art of Oyster Shucking – Patrick McMurray, a.k.a. Shucker Paddy, the world’s oyster shucking champion, taught us the secret to shucking 38 oysters per minute. 

HOLY CANNOLI‘s Cannoli Cream Pie – Having the privilege to taste this no-bake show-stopping pie was not one we took lightly. With only a few on hand (the rest being sold out!) we savoured every last bite of this heavenly dessert.
